IS IT TRUE?

images.jpeg

Well, I’ve been thinking of the essence of this work.

Trying to capture what clients need when we’re together.

It’s almost always to reveal a particularly damaging negative thought.

AND… when we get down to it —

It’s never True.

Ever!

Are you in pain right now?

Are you suffering because of your thoughts about a person, a circumstance, or yourself?

Something you THINK someone has done to you?

Something you THINK you have done to someone else?

Or something you think you Are or Are Not?

Let’s take a look.

I am poor! (A statement – a thought -a belief – and an untrue one at that.)

Turn it into a question.

Am I really poor?

As Byron Katie would say, “Is it absolutely true?”

Ask yourself “Is it absolutely true that I am really poor?”

Now. Look at the facts.

Do you absolutely have nothing?  Are you poor in money? In Spirit?  There are many ways to be poor – socially, emotionally, poor in health, poorly educated, poor in family connections, etc.

Do you have absolutely no access to prosperity?   I doubt it very much.  I’m pretty sure you can find some way you are Not poor.

So now you see that you were telling your self a lie.

Now you see you have some things.  Yes?

You are prosperous in some ways? Yes?

Now this new thought (I have some things)  will be you’re jumping off point to a better life.

Why?  Because  your thoughts create how you feel and how you feel influences how you act and how you act causes the outcomes in your life.

When you look at the ways you are not poor then you will also see that you are in fact, not poor! And you’ve been telling yourself a lie that is actually harming you and your access to more prosperity.

It harms you because it affects other thoughts about having richness in your life AND those thoughts attract more like thoughts that harm you and you create the “poor me” syndrome. But you can shift out of that.

The point is that if you want to feel better you have to challenge your negative thinking, not only because it’s not true, but because it’s harming you.

Lets look at another one:

“I am responsible for things that happen to others?”

Turn it around.  Ask a question?

Am I responsible for things that happen to others?

Find the facts. There is actually very little that we can ‘make happen’ in other people’s lives.

Look  instead, for reasons that people are responsible for themselves.

Don’t try and steal their power.

Stop beating yourself up for what has happened to other people.

It really doesn’t help them or you.

The only thing you are truly responsible for is You.

Choose your thoughts deliberately.

Challenge the ones that harm you.

The Gifts of Worry

images.jpeg

So you’re worried about your child, your finances, your marriage, your health, or your parent’s health. All of the above?

Worry that loops in your mind and causes a reaction in your body projects the energy of what you’re worried about into the future.

It keeps the energy alive.

You then think more thoughts that make you feel more worried and because you feel more worried you become frozen in procrastination.

Procrastination creates even more feelings of worry because the solution is no where in site and in turn you get stuck deeper and deeper in non action perpetuating the problem even further.

In the end you’re left with feelings of Deep Helplessness.

Sound familiar?

Believe it or not Worry has it’s Gifts.

Yes it does.

Tend to your worry.

Ask yourself what exactly drives your worry?

Name it – say it out loud or write it down. This dissipates the energy. It makes it manageable. It takes you from being IN the worry to seeing that you can have space. Space between you and your circumstance.

Now you can begin to see that you are actually outside the circumstance. You can watch the storm but not be blown away by it.

Ask yourself “What needs to be done?”

Soothe your procrastination and perpetual momentum for worry by taking small actionable steps towards the solution.

Let your mind think thoughts of progress instead of thoughts of overwhelm.

Go ahead be picky about what you think. Choose thoughts that serve you.

You don’t need to do everything at once.

Watch your feelings of helplessness turn to empowerment as you prepare for what’s in front of you.

Take advantage of the wonderful gifts of worry.

Preparation… Awareness … Focus … Action

Do what absolutely needs to be done in this moment.

It’s usually a small thing.

Dissipate your worry and project something different into your future.

A viable solution.

Something you create yourself by tending to your feelings of worry.

Not Right or Wrong. Not Good or Bad.

images

Are you afraid to change because you don’t like to feel uncomfortable when you try something different?

Do you shy away from that difficult conversation because you feel uneasy?

Or do you avoid moving to higher ground because you think your feelings are negative?

Your feelings may be uncomfortable but that doesn’t mean they’re negative.

They aren’t right or wrong.

They’re not good or bad.

They are just your feelings.

And they come with important messages.

They have gifts for you if you’re willing to see them all the way through.

Just to name a few …

Anger carries the gift of boundary defence.

Frustration brings you persistence which you need to reach your goals.

Envy motivates you to change.

Sadness marks an ending.  It’s ok to be sad when things end.

Don’t avoid these amazing feelings! They may be uncomfortable but they’re packed with positive messages that will get you positive results in your life if you don’t push them away.

Don’t chase them out, or pretend they don’t exist.

Don’t put a tub of ice cream on top of them either.

Welcome your feelings.

Learn to process them and express them in the right degree, to the right person, at the right time. ( By the way, sometimes that person is yourself.)

Let your feelings be part of your full experience.

They have gifts for you.

If you’re willing to feel them.

E-Motion: Energy In Motion

Unknown-1

The Sanskrit word Prana means “life force” energy that moves through the body..

Emotions are part of this energy and are meant to flow.

Anger for example is a healthy emotion and when you allow anger to flow naturally through the body you receive the gifts that accompany it – boundary protection and fairness.

You may have learned from your role models or through experience that emotions like anger or shame are not to be expressed but rather denied, repressed, or diminished in some way. If due process is denied, emotional energy will linger in the body.  Perhaps showing up in a tense shoulder or aching joints, depending on where you hold your stress. Contracting muscles over and over in the body is one way of attempting to restrict the flow of uncomfortable emotions. Using the mind to repress feelings is another way.  If you deny feelings of anger you may  turn to blaming yourself or others in order to try and process your feelings through your mind instead of feeling them in the body.  This of course doesn’t work.  You can’t “think” away your feelings – you have to feel them!  Blaming is just another way of keeping anger at bay.

Learning to let emotions flow naturally will allow you to create a healthier body, peaceful mind, and promote spiritual growth.  Take a step towards soothing your Soul by learning to process your emotions in a healthy way:

Soul Step : Take stock of slow moving emotional energy or frozen emotions in your body.  Let the negative stories you hold on to be a pointer to potentially stagnant energy. Do you have stories you revisit over and over and ultimately, emotions you have yet to process? Begin to move the energy by sharing, not the story, but how you feel or felt.  You can also share by writing in a journal. However be aware there is power in having a witness to your pain and sharing it with another Soul.  The power of that exchange transmutes to emotional freedom within your energy.

Soul Message:  What were the three top feelings that came up for you?  What message did you receive as you allowed these feelings to emerge?  What did they teach you?

Soul Focus: Emotional honesty doesn’t come easily but the effort will lend authenticity to your relationships and promote wisdom in the emotional realm.  When you move your feelings through you instead of freezing them you began to feel more balanced on a daily basis and you are able to create emotional intimacy more easily in your relationships.  You also free your energy to be used in other ways.  What areas of you life are calling you to be more emotionally honest? Is it your marriage? Relationships at work? Finances or spending habits? The body’s wisdom is vast. Trust it and notice what you feel and where you feel it in the body. That’s enough to begin the healthy emotional flow of energy.

Self Mastery

Self Mastery is practicing awareness in all areas of the Self – emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual.

Emotional maturity is taking care of your own emotional needs so you don’t expect others to do it for you.

Managing your mind involves using your thoughts to create positive results in your life and cleaning up your  thinking and  beliefs that continue to create negative outcomes for you.

Self care and listening to your body’s wisdom is essential to creating a healthy relationship with yourself.  Giving yourself permission to do this is one of the first steps to self mastery.

And connection to Spirit is about getting quiet, making space for solitude, and learning to let your Spirit  lead you through your day instead of allowing your ego-mind to use defensiveness and exclusion to keep you from the life and love you want.

All of these components lead to a more peaceful life.

There are small easy Self-Mastery tools that help you create homeostasis.

It takes effort but it’s doable!  And you don’t need to be 100% self mastered to create a more peaceful life.

51% practice is enough to tip the scales in your direction.

Just take one small step in any area to start living a more conscious life.  As always it begins with you.

Turn Your Weight Loss Excuses Around

love your body pic

It’s easy to come up with reasons to skip a workout or to eat fast food.

I’m too busy. I’m too tired. I don’t have time to prepare meals.

Excuses are little lies we tell ourselves. We think they keep us from pain but really they prolong and exacerbate our emotional suffering.

Take each little lie you tell yourself and turn it around.

Excuse: I’m too busy.
Truth: I watch an hour of TV every night so I really do have time to workout.

Excuse: I’m too tired.
Truth: I do feel tired but I know that exercising re-charges my body. I’m tired because I don’t exercise!

What are your excuses? Don’t just think about them, write them down! You can turn any excuse around. Acknowledge that those little lies are not little, they’re actually hurting you in BIG ways.

Know that you’re worth the truth.

Use your turnarounds as fuel to move in the direction you want to go!

Why Meditate?

Image

Meditation isn’t about stopping your thoughts.

Your mind’s job is to think so let’s not mess with that!

Thinking is good , right? You need it for problem solving,  analysis,  processing, reasoning, etc.

It’s also not so good (at times)  —like when you retell damaging stories from the past or worry about the future, both keep you from enjoying your present and both re-create more negative energy in your life.

Stopping the mind is not a realistic or functional goal. Thoughts are going to continue!

But perhaps finding the space between your thoughts, connecting to the greater consciousness, and residing with your Spirit is more attainable.

You actually don’t need to stop your thoughts to achieve this goal.

When you make the space for meditation on a daily basis you create an opportunity to carry that same space into your daily life.

Space from time constraints

Space from drama

Space from worry

Space for clarity

Space to welcome creative flow

Space to breathe

Space for Spirit to expand and… ego to relax.

Why Meditate?  Because as sentient beings you crave a space not connected to mental awareness but rather a ‘feeling’ perception.

In order to transcend the mind, you need to expand ‘heart’ consciousness.

Begin by creating a space to be still, meditate, and connect to your sentient nature every day.

With each breathe you can expand the space between your thoughts and connect more deeply to your heart energy.
